Marathon Opening Ceremony

NEW YORK ROAD RUNNERS

While at New York Road Runners (NYRR) Corey led efforts to increase the level of production and entertainment value across all organization properties, including their premier event, the TCS New York City Marathon.

As NYRR shifted from a running club to world-class leader in race event management, Corey oversaw all aspects of production across a 20-person cross-functional team. In this role he supervised and held ultimate accountability for all production elements: A/V, power/electric, tents, staging, digital signage, and entertainment; including full run-of-show, announcers, music, and national anthem performers.

This production scope also included sponsorship activations for partners like Nike, Asics, New Balance, Airbnb, United Airlines, Poland Spring, Tata Consultancy Services, Emerald Nuts, ESPN, Meredith Corporation, NFL, NY Giants, MLB, National Kidney Foundation, and American Heart Association.

During this time, he meticulously found creative cost efficiencies to keep annual spending down, negotiating contracts with vendors for A/V, tent rentals, and DJ’s.

Under his watch, the scope and level or production was elevated at the TCS New York City Marathon (which subsequently won the SBJ Sports Business Award for Sports Event of the Year), as well as the Airbnb Brooklyn Half Marathon (and its groundbreaking Pre-Party presented by New Balance), the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon, Emerald Nuts Midnight Run, the legendary Empire State Building Run-Up, the annual awards program Club Night, as well as all other events both marquee and minor, including their growing youth event portfolio. In particular, he led the re-design of the weekly “Race Day Central” logistics and look & feel.

Corey also helmed the inception of two new events as Event Director from initial concept development to final production on the Marathon Opening Ceremony Presented by United Airlines (featuring the Parade of Nations, Hall of Fame Presentation, and Marathon Fireworks presented by Poland Spring); and Harlem 5K Run/Walk, working in concert with the Harlem Chamber of Commerce.
